Sector Update: Energy Stocks Mixed Premarket Tuesday

09:21 AM EDT, 04/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were mixed premarket Tuesday with the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) recently advancing by 0.1%.

The United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was 0.1% lower and the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) was up 2.8%.

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was down 0.1% at $86.37 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Global benchmark North Sea Brent crude oil gained 0.1% to $90.44 per barrel. Natural gas futures were up 1.6% at $1.874 per 1 million British Thermal Units.

TotalEnergies (TTE) said it entered a preliminary agreement with Algerian state-owned oil company Sonatrach to conclude a hydrocarbon contract in the Timimoun region. TotalEnergies was 0.04% higher pre-bell.

BP (BP) is nearing a deal to offload a portion of its oil and gas assets in Trinidad and Tobago to Anglo-French oil company Perenco, Reuters reported, citing three people familiar with the discussions. BP was up more than 1% in recent premarket activity.

US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures were at $55.06 per barrel at 0122 GMT, down 20 cents, or 0.36 percent, from their last settlement. WTI settled 2.73-percent higher in the last session at its strongest closing level since Nov. 19.
