03:12 PM EDT, 10/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI has acquired Software Applications, a startup developing AI-driven user interfaces for Mac computers, for an undisclosed amount, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The deal will see OpenAI integrate Software Applications' technology into ChatGPT and add to its team of about a dozen former Apple (AAPL) employees, according to Bloomberg.
Software Applications, founded in 2023, previously raised $6.5 million from investors including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Figma CEO Dylan Field, Bloomberg reported.
OpenAI said two company executives, excluding Sam Altman, led the transaction, and was also approved by the board, Bloomberg added.
Nick Turley, who leads OpenAI's ChatGPT team, told Bloomberg he was impressed by Sky's capabilities, an AI assistant for Mac desktops that can interpret on-screen content, and sees it as a step toward enabling ChatGPT to perform tasks on local applications.
Microsoft ( MSFT ) has invested over $13 billion in a strategic partnership with OpenAI, and provides cloud infrastructure through Azure.
OpenAI, Microsoft ( MSFT ) and Software Applications did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
