01:57 PM EDT, 04/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- American Airlines Group ( AAL ) , Target ( TGT ) and several other major employers filed a lawsuit in a federal court alleging several pharmaceuticals making generic drugs of orchestrating a price-fixing that led to increases in drug prices since 2009.
The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Thursday, alleges that the defendants, including Pfizer ( PFE ) and Novartis ( NVS ) , also engaged in unlawful activities such as bid rigging, and market allocation of hundreds of generic drugs.
The plaintiffs, all of whom provide health plans to their employees, claim to have suffered billions of dollars in overcharges due to the defendants' illegal conduct.
The lawsuit seeks "injunctive relief and damages" against these manufacturers for the alleged violations of federal and state laws.
American Airlines ( AAL ), Target ( TGT ), Pfizer ( PFE ) and Novartis ( NVS ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
