08:13 AM EDT, 05/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Major US streaming services will be required to pay higher levies on their Canadian revenue as part of a plan to encourage and finance local content, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission said Thursday.
Under new rules, major online broadcasters will be required to contribute 15% of their Canadian revenue to support Canadian and indigenous content, up from the current 5% base contribution, the commission said.
