01:58 PM EDT, 09/25/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Chevron ( CVX ) will begin drilling for oil in October at the Kori Kori well in block 5 offshore Suriname, Reuters reported Thursday, citing a TV interview with Suriname's Oil Minister Patrick Brunings.
According to Surinamese news outlet Key News Wednesday, Brunings said on television program "Tak Kon Mit Mi" that the Kori Kori well, if found to be productive, would "significantly benefit" western Suriname and could even open the door to cooperation with neighboring Guyana.
Suriname's offshore basin has drawn strong international interest, with TotalEnergies (TTE) expecting to extract the first oil in block 58 and Petronas exploring block 52, where oil and high-quality gas have been found, the report said. A final investment decision could come by 2027, Brunings reportedly said.
Chevron ( CVX ) didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
