General Motors' Cruise Unit to Cut Half of Workforce

12:59 PM EST, 02/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- General Motors' ( GM ) Cruise unit is reducing its headcount by about 50%, a Cruise spokesperson said Tuesday in an email sent to MT Newswires.

"We are focused on combining efforts with General Motors ( GM ) to accelerate autonomy at scale on personal autonomous vehicles," the spokesperson said.

The job cuts extend to the chief executive and several top executives, TechCrunch said, adding that what's left of the company will be moved under General Motors ( GM ).

Separately, General Motors ( GM ) said it completed the acquisition of GM Cruise after the autonomous vehicle company's board of directors approved GM's merger offer.

The automaker said it will integrate Cruise technology into its Super Cruise driver assistance platform and will work together with Cruise on further developing assisted driving technology.

GM shares were over 1% higher in recent trading.
