06:30 AM EDT, 08/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) unit Google ( GOOG ) has agreed to a fine of 55 million Australian dollars ($35.8 million) over the company's Android deals with device makers and mobile network operators Telstra and Optus that made its search engine the default, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said Monday.
Certain provisions in mobile application distribution agreements and revenue share agreements, taken with other contracts, had the effect of substantially lessening competition in general search, the ACCC said.
Google ( GOOG ) must now allow OEMs and mobile network operators to choose and set any general search engine on a per-device basis, not restrict third-party search services, and also permit licensing of Google Mobile Services, including Google Play, separately from Search and Chrome, the ACCC said.
Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
