119 philanthropists donated more than ₹5 crore in FY23, as per the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List. Their cumulative contribution stood at ₹8,445 crore. As per the report, Indians who donated more than ₹100 crore rose to 14 from just 2 in the 2018 list. The top 10 philanthropists donated more than ₹5,800 crore. Anas Rahman Junaid, MD, Hurun India said, "India is going through one of the biggest wealth creation stories in its history. That's why the numbers are going up." Take a look at the top 10.
Shiv Nadar and family | 78-year-old HCL Founder Shiv Nadar and family retained the title of 'India's most generous' for the third time in five years with an annual donation of ₹2,042 crore. As per the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List, Nadar donated ₹5.6 crore per day, primarily towards arts, culture and heritage.
Azim Premji and family | 78-year-old Azim Premji of Wipro stood at the second spot by donating over ₹1,770 crore in a year. His donation has increased by more than 3 times as compared to the previous year.
Mukesh Ambani and family | India's richest man and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani is third on the list with an annual donation of ₹376 crore. Ambani and family mostly donated towards healthcare.
Kumar Mangalam Birla and family | With an annual donation of ₹287 crore, India's veteran banker Kumar Mangalam Birla and family stood at the fourth spot. Around ₹75 crore of this contribution came from their personal funds. Birla primarily donated for the cause of education.
Gautam Adani and family | On the fifth spot is Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. Adani donated ₹285 crore, which is 50% more than the previous year.
Bajaj family | The Bajaj family entered the list of top 10 Indian philanthropists as their annual donation tripled to over ₹260 crore. They are ranked on the 6th spot.
Anil Agarwal and family | Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal and family are ranked seventh on the list as their contribution rose by nearly 50%. They donated over ₹240 crore.
Cyrus Poonawalla and Adar Poonawalla | Cyrus Poonawalla and Adar Poonawalla, the father-son duo behind vaccine maker Serum Institute, made an annual donation of ₹179 crore to make a comeback on the top 10 list of 'India's most generous'.
Rohini Nilekani | Rohini Nilekani, Indian writer and Chairperson at Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, entered the top 10 givers list with an annual donation of ₹170 crore. She is also the most generous woman philanthropist on the list.
