09:07 AM EST, 01/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) must face a privacy class action lawsuit after a federal judge declined to dismiss the action, paving the way for a potential jury trial in August, Reuters reported late Wednesday.
The lawsuit alleges that Google ( GOOG ) collected personal data from users' cell phones after they switched off a button to stop the tracking, violating California privacy laws, according to Reuters.
US District Judge Richard Seeborg rejected the argument that the company adequately disclosed how its Web & App Activity settings worked and that users consented to the tracking, according to the report.
Google ( GOOG ) told Reuters that its privacy controls were adequate, but the claims mischaracterized its services.
The trial is set for August 18, the report added.
Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
