04:20 PM EDT, 07/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Boeing ( BA ) Chief Executive Dave Calhoun is being asked to appear before the US Senate Commerce Committee as the panel works on new legislation that would bolster regulatory authority over aircraft manufacturers, Reuters reported Thursday, citing the committee chair.
US Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Washington said Calhoun's testimony before the Commerce Committee may need to wait until the National Transportation Safety Board holds a hearing in early August regarding an incident that saw a door plug on a Boeing 737 MAX 9 passenger jet blow out mid-flight, Reuters reported.
The Commerce Committee met on June 13 to examine the Federal Aviation Administration's oversight of manufacturing safeguards at Boeing ( BA ), including the agency audits of the company and its suppliers. Calhoun appeared before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations last month.
Boeing ( BA ) and Cantwell's senate and committee offices did not immediately respond to requests for comment by MT Newswires.
