Match Group to Pay $14 Million to Resolve FTC Charges
Aug 12, 2025 10:11 AM

12:31 PM EDT, 08/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Match Group ( MTCH ) has agreed to pay $14 million, stop deceptive advertising, and simplify its cancellation processes to resolve charges filed by the Federal Trade Commission, the FTC said Tuesday.

In a September 2019 complaint, the FTC alleged that Match deceptively lured customers to subscribe to Match.com with a guarantee of a six-month free subscription if they failed to "meet someone special," but did not adequately disclose several other conditions necessary to take advantage of the offer.

The complaint also stated that Match unfairly suspended accounts of users after unsuccessful billing disputes and made it difficult for users to cancel subscriptions.

The FTC said it will use the $14 million to provide redress to impacted consumers, adding that the order also requires Match to clearly disclose the terms of its "six-month guarantee," refrain from taking adverse action against consumers for filing billing disputes, and provide simple mechanisms to cancel subscriptions.
