04:05 AM EDT, 10/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Rio Tinto (RIO) reported late Tuesday that the Q3 iron ore shipment from Pilbara rose 1% to 84.5 million tonnes due to operational improvements.
The company said it is on track for the first production of the Simandou high-grade iron ore project next year and expects to produce lithium from the Rincon starter plant by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the company's bauxite production for the quarter increased 8% to 15.1 million tonnes compared with the prior year.
Rio also said iron ore pellets and concentrate production from its Iron Ore Company of Canada operations fell 11% to 2.1 million tonnes.
