07:35 AM EDT, 09/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Unilever's ( UL ) Ben & Jerry's ( UL ) co-founder Jerry Greenfield said Wednesday that he has resigned from the ice cream maker, amid a dispute with its UK-based parent company over the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Greenfield, who co-founded Ben & Jerry's ( UL ) in 1978, said in statement shared by his partner Ben Cohen on the X platform that his decision was driven by the company's loss of independence under Unilever's ( UL ) ownership, which he believes has limited its ability to advocate for social justice.
Greenfield criticized the company for failing to continue speaking out for justice, equity, and human rights, according to the statement.
Ben Cohen expressed support for Greenfield's decision, emphasizing that it reflects their shared values, according to the post.
The resignation stems from tensions between Ben & Jerry's ( UL ) commitment to activism and Unilever's ( UL ) corporate policies, according to the statement.
