Feb 6, 2025 7:41 AM

10:25 AM EST, 02/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to add Google's ( GOOG ) statement in the third and fourth paragraphs.)

Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) is eliminating its diversity hiring targets and reviewing DEI programs, media outlets reported Wednesday.

Google ( GOOG ) said Wednesday in an email to employees that it would no longer establish hiring goals to improve representation among staff, The Wall Street Journal reported. In 2020, the company had set a target of boosting by 30% the proportion of "leadership representation of underrepresented groups" by this year, according to the report.

"We're committed to creating a workplace where all our employees can succeed and have equal opportunities, and over the last year we've been reviewing our programs designed to help us get there," a Google ( GOOG ) spokesperson said in an email to MT Newswires. "

"We've updated our 10-k language to reflect this, and as a federal contractor, our teams are also evaluating changes required following recent court decisions and executive orders on this topic," the spokesperson said.
