The Commodity Futures Trading Commission asked some big banks, including JPMorgan Chase ( JPM ) , Bank of America ( BAC ) and Citigroup ( C ) , for nondisclosure agreements in their swaps and clearing businesses to probe whether the contracts silence whistleblowers, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
CFTC enforcement staff in the New York office want to know if the contracts have language that holds back whistleblowers or doesn't make clear that wrongdoing can be reported to the regulator, the report said.
The agency hasn't accused the companies of wrongdoing, and its requests may lead to no action, the report said.
The CFTC, Bank of America ( BAC ), Citigroup ( C ), JPMorgan ( JPM ) declined to comment, Bloomberg said.
Bank of America ( BAC ) declined MT Newswires' request for comment, while the other banks and the agency didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
