01:17 PM EDT, 06/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US citizens can bring discrimination claims under Section 1981 of the 1866 Civil Rights Act, a US appeals court ruled Thursday, overturning a federal district judge's ruling last year that US citizen Purushothaman Rajaram's lawsuit against Meta Platforms ( META ) lacked standing.

Rajaram, who unsuccessfully applied for multiple positions at Meta's Facebook, sued the company for allegedly discriminating against US citizens in favor of foreign workers on H-1B specialty occupation visas because it can pay them less.
