07:42 AM EDT, 08/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed its preliminary evaluation of the hard braking and immobilization issues in 1,194 autonomous ride-hailing vehicles operated by General Motors' ( GM ) Cruise unit, according to a notice posted on the regulator's website.
The NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation said it launched the investigation on Dec. 12, 2022 to assess reports of inappropriately hard braking and immobilizations in Cruise-operated vehicles equipped with its automated driving system.
The Cruise vehicles were involved in 10 crashes, four of which resulted in injury to vulnerable road users, according to the NHTSA.
"In view of the recall action taken by Cruise and ODI's analysis of the available data, including data presented by Cruise demonstrating a reduced occurrence of hard braking incidents after the software updates, ODI is closing this preliminary evaluation," the regulator said.
