08:22 AM EDT, 08/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- VinFast Auto ( VFS ) has started operations at its first overseas factory that is located in Thoothukudi, India, multiple media outlets reported Monday.

The plant has an initial production capacity of 50,000 electric vehicles per year, scalable to 150,000, with the company's two electric sports utility vehicles, the VF 7 and VF 6, as the first to be manufactured, the reports said.

VinFast plans to introduce the vehicles to Indian showrooms later in the month, Reuters cited company CEO Pham Sanh Chau as saying. The pricing was not disclosed, according to the report.

Chau told Reuters that the company aims to have a plant in Indonesia operational by the end of the year, and that US production has been delayed until 2028.

VFS shares were almost 3% higher in recent premarket activity.
