Apple said to have 3 new iPhones planned for 2017

An iPhone with a curved screen is among three new models Apple has set for 2017, a source told Nikkei Asian Review on Monday.

In addition to 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch flat-screen versions, next year's Apple product line could include a 5.5-inch — or larger — phone with a "screen bent on the two sides" like Samsung's top-end phones, Nikkei reported.

That could mean that only two new models will debut in September of this year, one with a dual-lens camera, the unnamed source told Nikkei reporters Debby Wu and Cheng Ting-Fang.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request to confirm the report.

The "bent" flexible screens are a feature of organic light-emitting diode panels (OLED), which are known for better color gamut and have recently become both more popular and more cost-effective. Apple rival Samsung, maker of the much-buzzed about Note7, is the main supplier of OLED displays.

It's been widely reported by outlets like The Wall Street Journal that Apple has bigger design changes in store for the 10-year anniversary of the original iPhone, such as eliminating the "home button," some of which weren't ready for this year's anticipated launch.
