Coronavirus in Maharashtra LIVE Updates: COVID-19 cases reach 1,757 in Thane city, Navi Mumbai has 1,487

The number of COVID-19 cases in Thane city reached 1,757 with 197 people testing positive on Friday, while the figure for Navi Mumbai was 1,487 with 65 additions to the infection tally, an official said. In Thane municipal corporation limits, the worst-hit was Lokmanya Savarkar Nagar with 499 cases, while Mumbra and Wagle had over 200 cases each, he added. Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation added 57 cases to its tally, taking the total COVID-19 count to 699, the official informed. The count in neighbouring Palghar district was 496, officials said, PTI reported.

Coronavirus in Mumbai LIVE Updates: Religious leaders should remove fear about COVID-19, says Maharashtra Health Ministers

There is a misunderstanding and fear about coronavirus among people, and religious leaders should take initiative to clear those, Maharashtra ministers Rajesh Tope and Nawab Malik urged on Friday. Health Minister Tope also said that 97 of the 100 coronavirus-infected people are returning home post-recovery, and urged the leaders to take this message to the people. The ministers made the appeal as they reached out to leaders from different religions via video conferencing, held in association with UNICEF, the statement said. "There is fear and misunderstanding among the people about coronavirus. Therefore, several people are still not coming ahead for treatment," the statement quoted Tope as saying.

However, the trouble is that the available number of beds in the hospital have not been adequate to take care of the increasing burden of patients, particularly those suspect with COVID. And that is putting a lot of pressure on the healthcare workers, particularly the resident doctors who are in-charge of taking care of the patients -- both COVID and non-COVID.

Coronavirus in Mumbai LIVE Updates: 1,751 new coronavirus patients found in Mumbai, 27 deaths

Mumbai on Friday recorded its highest one-day increase in the number of coronavirus patients at 1,751, which took the city's tally of cases to 27,068, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Earlier, the hightest one-day surge was recorded on May 17 when 1,571 new patients had been found. Further, with 27 new deaths, the toll due to the pandemic in the country's financial capital reached 909, the BMC said. 329 COVID-19 patients were dicharged from city hospitals on Friday, taking the number of recovered patients to 7,080, PTI reported.

President Vladimir Putin said Friday the coronavirus outbreak in Russia has begun to abate, creating a positive environment for easing restrictions, as officials defended the country's data on deaths against claims they were being under-reported. "The positive dynamic is not so fast as we would like it to be, sometimes even unstable, but it does exist," he said. Russia currently ranks second after the United States in the number of infections with 326,448 cases, including 3,249 deaths, AP reported.

Coronavirus in Mumbai LIVE Updates: Zomato may deliver liquor in Mumbai soon

After the state government allowed delivery of liquor in Mumbai, with exceptions in containment zones, food delivery platform Zomato said that it could start delivering alcohol in the city. "We have already started our alcohol delivery services in Jharkhand and are in advance stages of discussions with other state governments. We have received the order in Mumbai and are analysing it for further action. We look forward to partnering with the liquor retail industry to enable safe and compliant delivery of alcoholic beverages in Mumbai,” a Zomato spokesperson said.

CISCE board to conduct pending class 10, 12 exams from July 1-14

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on Friday announced it will conduct pending class 10 and 12 exams, which were postponed due to the coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown, from July 1 to 14. It asked schools to ensure social distancing is followed and directed candidates to carry hand sanitisers and wear face masks.

Tickets for special trains on Rajdhani routes can be bought 30 days in advance, at railway stations

The tickets for the 15 pairs of special trains running on Rajdhani routes will now be available 30 days in advance and can be bought at reservation counters at railway stations. Earlier, the tickets could be booked only on the IRCTC website. The tickets can also be booked at computerised PRS counters, including Post Offices and Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendras, as well as online through authorised agents of Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Common Service Centres.

Maharashtra on Friday recorded 2,940 COVID-19 cases, the highest daily spike, taking the state tally to 44582, a health official said. With 63 deaths due to the pandemic reported during the day, the death toll in the state rose to 1517, the official said.

67-yr-old doctor dies of COVID-19 in Indore, toll reaches 110

A 67-year old doctor has died of coronavirus infection here, taking the COVID-19 death toll in the district to 110, a senior official said on Friday. Three doctors have died due to coronavirus in Indore, the worst-affected district in Madhya Pradesh, to date. Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of the district Dr Praveen Jadia said that the 67-year-old general physician had been admitted to a private hospital in the city in critical condition.

COVID-19: Arunachal district restricts movement of people from Assam

The Longding district administration in Arunachal Pradesh has restricted movement of people from Assam, after Sonari town in that state reported two new COVID-19 cases, officials said. The district has proximity to Assam through Sonari town in Sibsagar district. Longding Deputy Commissioner Chesta Yadav, in an order issued on Friday, prohibited unauthorised entry of labourers and other people from Assam following the reports of the fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday.
