December Chicago Fed National Activity Index Jumps Unexpectedly

08:39 AM EST, 01/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Chicago Federal Reserve Bank's monthly National Activity Index rose to a reading of 0.15 in December from an upwardly revised minus 0.01 in November, compared with expectations for a decrease to minus 0.06 in survey of analysts compiled by Bloomberg as of 7:35 am ET.

The three-month moving average rose to minus 0.13 from minus 0.26 in the previous month.

Of the 85 individual indicators, 44 made positive contributions to the index in December, while 41 made negative contributions. Some 54 indicators improved in the month, while 30 indicators deteriorated, and one was unchanged.
