Noted economist Surjit Bhalla on Friday said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) landslide victory in the country has set the stage for a big bang fiscal reform.
Talking about his book, Bhalla said, "This book Citizen Raj has helped me to perhaps luckily arrive at a correct verdict. It is an exploration of Indian economic, political and psephological history over the last 70 years. It involved the study of what has happened in India over 70 years of democracy."
Bhalla said, "The middle class is one area that the Congress has completely ignored. The NYAY programme was all about poor, poor, poor and even there they weren’t able to market it effectively as it was all confusing."
"What I am saying is the Modi government was very much in touch with the reality of a vast majority of the people. No perfection and there was problems. We saw there were implementation problems with demonetisation. We have seen the implementation problems in GST and people recognise it. However, the point is they see things happening," he added.
