India was the fifth most affected country by climate change in 2018 as per Global Climate Risk Index 2020. Monsoon season (June-September) severely affected India, especially Kerala.
In Kerala, over 300 people died and 220,000 people were displaced and monetary losses worth $ 2.8 billion were recorded. India’s rank dropped from 14 in 2017 to 5th in 2018 due to adverse climatic conditions like rainfalls, cyclones, heat waves.
Environment think tank Germanwatch assessed 181 countries on the impacts of climate change through economic fatalities.
