Passports of officers being investigated or prosecuted in corruption cases or facing FIR registered by a government entity after a preliminary enquiry will be suspended or denied, The Times of India reported.

The revised guidelines, quoted by the paper on Friday, pointed that officers under the Prevention of Corruption Act or any other criminal case will be denied the passport by not granting vigilance clearance.
The guidelines, as mentioned in the report, also stated that the information regarding FIRs could be provided to the passport office, where the issuing authorities will reach a conclusion.
However, there are exceptions in cases of medical emergencies.
The norms can also be relaxed if the officer is required to attend family events outside the country or in pending cases, the authorities may allow foreign travel on a case-to-case basis.
