Tatas win case against Mumbai businessman who refused to pay Rs 65 lakh hotel bill, says report
Apr 12, 2019 1:57 AM

The Ratan Tata-controlled Indian Hotels Co Ltd (IHCL) has won a lawsuit against DBS Securities owner Vikram Aggarwal who refused to pay a bill amount of Rs 65 lakh, Mumbai Mirror reported.

The Bombay High Court ruled against Aggarwal saying that he must pay the bill amount in addition to an 18 percent interest as demanded by IHCL, the report said.

The hotel had filed a case against Aggarwal in December claiming Rs 1 crore with interest.

Aggarwal, who resides in a sea-facing building at Worli, had filed a complaint against an independent director of IHCL. Aggrieved at the Tata Group for allegedly not paying heed to his complaint, he checked into Taj Wellington Residences and rented a 5,000 sq ft penthouse with his family on May 1, 2015, and checked out on July 31, 2015, without paying the bill, the report said.

"The actual reason (to stay at Taj Wellington) was to bring up the point about the complaint. Securities laws and listing norms say that when there is a complaint against a board member, it must be disclosed to the Sebi. But the management was not doing it. And this was the route I chose at the time," Aggarwal was quoted as saying in the report.
