10 things you need to know before the market opens

The market is set to open in the green on Wednesday on positive global cues. The Sensex and the Nifty closed at record high on Tuesday, however, the rupee weakened and settled at 68.94 per dollar.

Here is what you need to know before the opening bell:

SGX Nifty: The Singapore traded SGX Nifty traded at levels around 11,150 vs Nifty July Future's Tuesday close of 11,142, indicating a flat-to-positive opening for Indian equities today.

Asian markets: Asian stocks rose higher on Wednesday tracking Wall Street gains due to strong US corporate earnings and hopes China will boost fiscal support for its economy. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan gained 0.17 percent. Australian stocks dipped 0.1 percent, South Korea's KOSPI advanced 0.35 percent and Japan's Nikkei rose 0.5 percent.

US markets: The S&P 500 rose 0.5 percent to 2820.40, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 197.65 points, or 0.8 percent, to 25,241.94. The Nasdaq Composite dipped 1.1 point to 7840.77.

US dollar: In currencies, the dollar index against a basket of six major currencies. The euro was flat at $1.1684, while the dollar edged up 0.1 percent to 111.31 yen.

Oil: Brent crude futures was up 0.45 percent at $73.76 a barrel, adding to the previous day's gains as market focus shifted away from oversupply concerns to the possibility of increasing Chinese demand.

Market at close: The Sensex closed up 106.50 points at 36825.10, while the Nifty was up 49.50 points at 11134.30. The market breadth was positive as 1,940 shares advanced against a decline of 675 shares, while 150 shares were unchanged.

Rupee: The rupee dropped by 8 paise to close at 68.94 against the US currency, extending its fall for a second straight day due to sustained dollar demand from importers even as local equities hit a record high.

FII & DII data: Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 104.34 crore and domestic institutional investors Rs 513.78 crore in the Indian equity market on Tuesday, as per provisional data available on the NSE.

June corporate earnings: L&T, Ambuja Cements, Hero Moto, JSW Steel, BHEL, Bharti Infratel, Canara Bank, etc., will announce their first quarter results.

Brics Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the five-member summit in Johannesburg beginning today.
