07:55 AM EDT, 07/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was down 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.02% lower in Thursday's premarket activity, ahead of key inflation data set for release later in the day.
US stock futures were also lower, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.1%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.2%, and Nasdaq futures retreating 0.1% before the start of regular trading.
The June CPI bulletin and the weekly jobless claims bulletin will be released at 8:30 am ET, followed by the weekly EIA natural gas release at 10:30 am ET.
Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic speaks at 11:30 am ET, and St. Louis President Alberto Musalem speaks at 1 pm ET.
In premarket action, bitcoin was up by 1.9% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF ( BITO ) was 2.3% higher.

Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLK ) was up 0.1%, while the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) and the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) were flat. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) and the iShares Semiconductor ETF ( SOXX ) each lost 0.1%.
SoundHound AI ( SOUN ) shares were up 6.5% in recent Thursday premarket activity after the company said Wednesday that its Chat AI voice assistant with integrated ChatGPT is in production in Peugeot, Opel and Vauxhall vehicle brands across 11 European markets.

Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLI ) was marginally lower while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) and the iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) were inactive.
Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) shares fell more than 8% before the opening bell after the company reported Q2 adjusted earnings of $2.36 per diluted share, down from $2.68 a year earlier.
Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) advanced 0.02%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) and the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) were inactive. The iShares Biotechnology ETF ( IBB ) was flat.
Pfizer ( PFE ) stock was up 1.8% premarket after the company said it is advancing the development of a once-daily formulation of danuglipron based on pharmacokinetic data.
Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was up 0.7%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was inactive. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) was 0.2% lower. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) was inactive, while the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) was flat.
Pepsico ( PEP ) shares traded down 1.6% pre-bell after the beverage maker reported strong fiscal Q2 earnings, but lower-than-expected revenue.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) was marginally higher.
HF Sinclair ( DINO ) shares gained 0.9% before Thursday's opening bell after the company said it named Eric L. Nitcher as executive vice president and general counsel.

Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLF ) retreated 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ( FAS ) was down 0.4%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ( FAZ ) was 0.3% higher.
Citigroup ( C ) stock was down 1.5% premarket Thursday after US bank regulators fined the company $135.6 million for allegedly failing to make enough progress in addressing data management issues identified in 2020.

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil gained 0.1% to $82.16 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas retreated 0.04% to $2.33 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund ( USO ) lost 0.1% and the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) slid 0.3%.
Gold futures for August advanced 0.3% to $2,387.70 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures rose 0.9% to $31.29 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) gained 0.4%, and iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 0.5% higher.
