08:29 AM EDT, 04/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was down 2.6% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 2% lower in Thursday's premarket activity after US President Donald Trump paused additional tariffs for 90 days.
US stock futures were also lower, with S&P 500 Index futures down 1.6%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 1.2%, and Nasdaq futures retreating 1.9% before the start of regular trading.
The consumer price index report for March and the weekly jobless claims data will be released at 8:30 am ET, followed by the weekly EIA domestic natural gas supplies report at 10:30 am ET.
Richmond President Thomas Barkin is slated to speak at 8:30 am, Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan at 9:30 am, Kansas President Jeffrey Schmid at 10 am, Governor Michelle Bowman at 10 am, Chicago President Austan Goolsbee at 12 pm, Philadelphia President Patrick Harker at 12 pm, and Boston President Susan Collins at 4 pm.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 0.6% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.9% lower.

Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) retreated 0.4%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) was down 1.2% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) gained 0.1%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 1.4% lower
Keros Therapeutics ( KROS ) stock was up more than 15% premarket after the company said its board has decided to initiate a formal review process to evaluate strategic alternatives for the company.

Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was down 0.1%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) retreated 0.1%. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was 3% lower, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) lost 1.7%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) was inactive, while the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) was down 2.2%.
Topgolf Callaway Brands ( MODG ) shares were up more than 8% pre-bell after the company said it has agreed to sell the Jack Wolfskin brand to ANTA Sports for a base price of $290 million.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLI ) declined 1.6% while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) gained 1.7% and the iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) was inactive.
Laser Photonics ( LASE ) stock was up more than 7% before the opening bell. The company said it expects its total addressable market to have increased to roughly $45 billion with its recent acquisitions.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) retreated 2.6%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was 2.3% lower, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was down 1.9%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) retreated 0.7%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) fell 3.5%.
STMicroelectronics ( STM ) shares were down more than 7% in recent Thursday premarket activity after gaining more than 21% at Wednesday's close. The company said it will overhaul its manufacturing network over the next three years, aiming to streamline operations and reduce costs, with up to 2,800 voluntary staff departures expected globally.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) declined 1.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ( FAS ) was down 4.3%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ( FAZ ) was 4.6% higher.
Enact Holdings ( ACT ) shares were up nearly 5% pre-bell Thursday after S&P Dow Jones Indices said late Wednesday the company will replace SolarWinds ( SWI ) in the S&P SmallCap 600 effective before the opening of trading on April 16.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) gained 0.3%, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) was down by 2.1%.
Schlumberger ( SLB ) stock was down more than 3% before Thursday's opening bell. The UK Competition and Markets Authority said that the company has proposed divesting its UK production chemical technologies business to address competition concerns raised by its planned acquisition of ChampionX.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 2.8% to $60.60 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas retreated 3.3% to $3.69 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund ( USO ) lost 3.2%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) was 1.7% lower.
Gold futures for June gained 2.1% to reach $3,143.50 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures advanced 1.7% to $30.92 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) was up 0.9%, and the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 1.8% higher.
