Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, fell Tuesday. The actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.04%.
US equity indexes traded mixed midday as technology gains helped the Nasdaq Composite grind higher amid an air of caution ahead of the Federal Reserve monetary policy announcement and the CPI inflation print on Wednesday.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) lost 0.3% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) dipped 0.6%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 1%, and iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) gained.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.8% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dipped 0.7%.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) slumped 1.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) slid 4.1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) climbed 4.4%.
Commodities
Crude rose 0.4% and United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 0.4%. Natural gas added 0.1%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) climbed 3.6%.
Gold was 0.4% higher based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) dropped 0.1%. Silver was down 0.6% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) lost 1.9%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was 1.1% lower; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) was trading 0.4% lower and the SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was down 0.5%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) dropped 0.7%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.6%.
Industrial
Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was down 0.8%, while both iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ) and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) fell 0.8%.
