Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After ISM Manufacturing Data

01:01 PM EDT, 06/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were trading lower and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.2% after the Institute for Supply Management's US manufacturing index declined.

US benchmark stock indexes were also lower, while crude oil slumped as a manufacturing gauge showed worsening activity.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 2.8% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) slid 2.9%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 0.7%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) declined 1.4% and iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 1.3%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 1.5%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was down 4.6% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 4.4%.

Commodities

Crude was down 3.4%; United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 3.9%. Natural gas was up 3.6% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) added 4.5%.

Gold was up 0.7% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) were up 0.7%. Silver was up 0.6% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was up 0.3%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.5%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) contracted 0.7%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.2% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 0.7%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI) dropped 1.8% and other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ) and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were lower.
