Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

01:13 PM EST, 12/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM rose while IVV fell. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was fractionally down.

US equity indexes traded mixed, and most government bond yields rose with the dollar amid caution in markets ahead of a tick-up expected in month-over-month headline inflation.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was fractionally up, while Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was fractionally down.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) lost 1.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) dropped 2.1%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 2.2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was up 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 0.1%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dipped 0.3%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 0.7%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 1%. Natural gas edged down 1.5%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 1.1%.

Gold was up 1.3% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 1.4%. Silver advanced 0.2%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed 0.8%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) added 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) climbed 0.5% while iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) rose 0.3%.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) gained 0.9%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) advanced.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 0.3% lower, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) rose and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were down. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 0.3%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 0.1%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were mixed with the latter rising fractionally.
