Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Gain in Late Afternoon Trading

03:47 PM EST, 11/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks rose late Friday afternoon with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) increasing 1.2% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) adding 1.4%.

In corporate news, the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit upheld a lower court's ruling that blocked a joint venture between American Airlines ( AAL ) and JetBlue Airways ( JBLU ) . American shares rose 1.1% and JetBlue ( JBLU ) gained 4.3%.

Gray Television ( GTN ) shares plunged 27% after the company reported Q3 earnings and revenue that missed market estimates and issued revenue guidance below expectations.

AMC Networks ( AMCX ) shares jumped 4.9% after the company reported better-than-expected Q3 earnings and revenue.

Paramount's (PARA) Q3 earnings unexpectedly rose, and revenue fell more than Wall Street estimated. The shares slumped 4.3%.
