Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Mixed in Late Afternoon Trading

03:41 PM EDT, 08/19/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed late Tuesday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) rising 0.8% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) easing 0.1%.

Redbook US same-store sales last week rose by 5.9% from a year earlier after a 5.7% increase in the previous week.

In corporate news, Booking (BKNG) reached a $9.5 million settlement with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over a lawsuit related to junk fee practices, the attorney general's office said. Booking shares added nearly 1%.

Tesla (TSLA) will face a certified class action in California after a judge approved claims that the company misled customers who paid for its full self-driving package, according to a court ruling on Tuesday. Tesla shares dropped 1.6%.

Amer Sports ( AS ) raised its full-year outlook on Tuesday as Q2 results came in stronger than expected, although the company's Q3 revenue guidance indicated a growth slowdown on a sequential basis. Its shares fell 4.4%.

Home Depot ( HD ) shares rose 3% after the company reported higher fiscal Q2 adjusted earnings and net sales on Tuesday.
