The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 0.9%.
In corporate news, Gilead Sciences ( GILD ) said Thursday that its experimental twice-yearly Lenacapavir shot to prevent HIV was 100% effective in women in a late-stage trial. Its shares jumped more than 9%.
Community Health Systems ( CYH ) shares tumbled 8% after the company said that Novant Health has decided to pull out of a deal to buy Norman Regional Medical Center and Davis Regional Psychiatric Hospital in North Carolina.
ImmunityBio ( IBRX ) shares jumped 6.7% after the company said it has launched Anktiva, its immunotherapy to treat Bacillus Calmette-Guerin-unresponsive non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, with multiple patients across the US receiving the initial commercial doses.
