Sector Update: Health Care Stocks Rise Premarket Tuesday

09:23 AM EDT, 05/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Health care stocks were edging higher premarket Tuesday as the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) was up 0.9% and the iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose by 1.8% recently.

Moderna ( MRNA ) shares were up more than 2% after the company said it filed an application with the US Food and Drug Administration for review of its Spikevax formula targeting SARS-CoV-2 variant LP.8.1.

Rocket Pharmaceuticals ( RCKT ) shares fell by more than 63% after the company said the US Food and Drug Administration has placed a clinical hold on the company's mid-stage trial of RP-A501, its drug for Danon disease, after a participant experienced an unexpected serious adverse event and later died from an acute infection.

BeiGene ( ONC ) said the European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use has issued a positive opinion recommending approval of its drug Tevimbra in combination with gemcitabine and cisplatin as a first-line treatment for adults with recurrent or metastatic nasopharyngeal cancer. BeiGene ( ONC ) shares were 0.2% lower premarket.

Sensex and Nifty closed in the red, but off the intra-day lows thanks to the support lent by the likes of Reliance Industries and HCL Tech. Sensex closed at 57,124, as it fell 190 points and the Nifty50 index declined 70 points to end at 17,000. The market breadth favours the declines, with two stocks falling for every one that rose.

The Data Patterns (India) shares debuted with a fine premium of 48 percent on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Friday. The stock opened at Rs 864 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and Rs 856 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Its issue price was Rs 585 per share.

In a block deal, which took place on the Friday HCL Technology has bought nearly 26 lakh shares in the company. This has been bought by the company as a part of the ESOP trust. This is not the promoters acquiring a stake in HCL Technology.
