The Philadelphia Semiconductor index was shedding 0.3%.
In sector news, US lawmakers sent letters to companies including Apple ( AAPL ) , Amazon (AMZN), and JPMorgan Chase (JPM), seeking explanations for their continued use of H-1B visas while cutting other jobs, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
In corporate news, CoreWeave ( CRWV ) said Thursday that it expanded its collaboration with OpenAI, securing a new contract worth up to $6.5 billion to help the Microsoft-backed (MSFT) AI lab boost its computing power. CoreWeave ( CRWV ) shares were down 3%.
Meta Platforms ( META ) faces preliminary findings from the European Commission alleging that Facebook and Instagram failed to provide adequate tools for users to flag illegal posts, Bloomberg reported Thursday. Meta shares fell 1.5%.
Intel ( INTC ) is seeking an investment from Apple ( AAPL ) as part of an effort to boost its business, Bloomberg reported late Wednesday. Separately, Apple ( AAPL ) asked the EU Wednesday to repeal the Digital Markets Act because it has negatively impacted user experiences, delayed the rollout of new features, increased safety threats and reduced consumer choices, the company said in a blog post. Intel ( INTC ) shares jumped 7%, and Apple ( AAPL ) added 0.5%.
