07:17 AM EST, 11/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The benchmark US stock measures were pointing higher before the opening bell Monday, after the Senate reportedly took a crucial step in ending the ongoing US federal government shutdown.
The S&P 500 rose 0.9%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.4% and the Nasdaq gained 1.4% in premarket activity. The S&P 500 and the Dow finished Friday's trading session in the green, while the Nasdaq closed lower for the second consecutive day.
Senate lawmakers on Sunday passed the first stage for a federal funding bill that is aimed to end the government stoppage, which entered its record 41st day on Monday, CNBC reported. Eight Democratic senators reportedly voted in favor of the deal to clear a 60-vote minimum threshold.
The Senate will likely vote again on the measure Monday before it proceeds to the US House of Representatives for approval and President Trump's signature, according to media outlets. If left unresolved, the stoppage could again delay key inflation data scheduled for later this week, including the consumer price index and the producer prices report, both for October.
On Friday, preliminary results from a University of Michigan survey showed that consumer sentiment in early November fell to the weakest level in more than three years amid concerns about the government shutdown's impact on the world's largest economy.
Treasury yields were trending upwards in premarket action, with the two-year rate inclining 3.4 basis points to 3.59% and the 10-year rate adding 3.5 basis points to 4.13%.
Unemployment rate expectations continued to worsen in the US last month, according to a survey released Friday by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The survey also showed that consumers' inflation expectations fell at the short-term horizon in October, but stayed unchanged at the medium- and long-term horizons.
