07:10 AM EDT, 07/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The main US stock measures edged higher in Wednesday's premarket activity, as traders await the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates, key economic reports and the latest quarterly earnings of a couple of big-tech companies.
The S&P 500 nudged up 0.1%, the Nasdaq added 0.2% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was slightly in the green before the opening bell. The indexes closed the previous trading session lower, with the S&P 500 snapping a six-day winning streak.
The Fed is due to announce its latest monetary policy decision at 2 pm ET, with Chair Jerome Powell scheduled to hold a press conference at 2:30 pm. Markets are widely expecting the Federal Open Market Committee to hold its benchmark lending rate steady, according to the CME FedWatch tool.
"The decision is unlikely to be unanimous," Saxo Bank Chief Investment Strategist Charu Chanana said in a Tuesday note. "A dissent from key members such as (Governor Christopher Waller) or (Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman) could shift market expectations toward a September move."
Earlier this month, Fed Governor Adriana Kugler said she favored holding rates steady "for some time" amid tariffs-induced pressure on inflation. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly called on the central bank to cut interest rates, while ramping up his criticism of Powell.
The two-year Treasury yield moved down less than one basis point to 3.86% before the open, while the 10-year rate slipped slightly to 4.32%.
The advance estimate for the second-quarter gross domestic product is out at 8:30 am. Wednesday's economic calendar also has the weekly mortgage applications bulletin, the ADP Employment report for July, the pending home sales index for June and the weekly EIA domestic petroleum inventories report.
Technology giants Microsoft ( MSFT ) and Meta Platforms ( META ) are scheduled to report their latest financial results after the markets close Wednesday, along with Qualcomm ( QCOM ) , Ford Motor ( F ) and eBay ( EBAY ) . Hershey (HSY), GE HealthCare Technologies (GEHC), Kraft Heinz ( KHC ) and Humana (HUM) are some of the other major companies set to post earnings before the bell.
US and Chinese officials on Tuesday wrapped up their two-day talks in Sweden on trade matters without announcing an extension to the temporary suspension of tariffs on each other's goods, according to several media reports. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reportedly said the overall tone of talks was "very constructive," while Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the US delegation will discuss the developments with Trump.
In May, Washington, DC, and Beijing agreed to temporarily suspend most duties on each other's goods for a period of 90 days. The US and the European Union reached a trade deal on Sunday.
Shares of Visa (V) declined 2.2% pre-bell even though the payment processor reported stronger-than-expected fiscal third-quarter results. Starbucks ( SBUX ) rose 4.7% as the coffee giant's fiscal third-quarter revenue topped market expectations. SoFi Technologies ( SOFI ) dropped 8.6% after closing Tuesday with a 6.6% jump.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil declined 0.9% to $68.57 a barrel in premarket action. Gold inched 0.1% higher to $3,327 per troy ounce, while bitcoin inclined 0.7% to $118,380.
