Top Midday Stories: Pfizer's 2025 Guidance Matches Analysts' Expectations; Nvidia Introduces More Affordable Generative AI Supercomputer

11:43 AM EST, 12/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- All three major US stock indexes were down in late-morning trading on Tuesday as Wall Street awaits the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates that will be announced Wednesday afternoon at the conclusion of its Federal Open Market Committee's two-day meeting.

In company news, Pfizer ( PFE ) said Tuesday it expects revenue of $61 billion to $64 billion in 2025, matching its 2024 guidance given in October, which at the time was raised $1.5 billion at the midpoint. The current FactSet consensus is for $63.22 billion in 2025. The company said it sees adjusted earnings of $2.80 to $3.00 per share, while analysts surveyed by FactSet expect $2.86. Pfizer ( PFE ) shares were up 3.8% around midday.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) said Tuesday its new Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit is now available for $249, down from $499. The generative AI supercomputer "provides everyone, from commercial AI developers to hobbyists and students, gains in generative AI capabilities and performance," the company said. Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares were down 1.4%.

PG&E ( PCG ) is being awarded a $15 billion low-interest loan commitment from the US Department of Energy to finance hundreds of projects to fight the impact of climate change and improve the electrical grid, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Specifically, the DoE loan is earmarked for projects to bolster hydroelectric power facilities and upgrade power lines to accommodate renewable energy infrastructure, data centers and electric vehicles, the report said. PG&E ( PCG ) shares were up nearly 1%.

Honda Motor ( HMC ) said Tuesday it is continuing to refine its 2-motor hybrid system, Honda ( HMC ) e:HEV, to achieve an annual hybrid vehicle sales target of 1.3 million units by 2030. In order to achieve its annual sales target, the carmaker said that its next-generation e:HEV system, component parts and control technology will be renewed for both the small-size system and the mid-size system to further enhance environmental performance and improve the driving experience. Honda ( HMC ) shares were up 0.8%.

The Starbucks ( SBUX ) Workers United union said that 98% of union workers voted to authorize a strike, if necessary, ahead of the final stages of contract negotiations, Bloomberg reported Tuesday. Starbucks ( SBUX ) has "yet to bring a comprehensive economic package to the bargaining table," Bloomberg reported, citing the union. Starbucks ( SBUX ) shares were down 0.6%.

Walt Disney ( DIS ) said Tuesday it has acquired the global theatrical rights for the full-length film version of the children's animated show Bluey. The company said the movie will be shown in theaters in 2027 under the Disney brand and will then be available on its Disney+ streaming service. Disney ( DIS ) shares were up 1.3%.
