In the 2016 Assembly elections, Dindigul was won by C Sreenivasan AIADMK.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by K Balabharathi of CPIM.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Sreenivasan garnered 91413 votes, securing over 49.3 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 20719 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 11.17 percent.

The constituency polled 185548 votes in the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly polls with a voter turnout of 74.59 percent.

The Dindigul constituency has a literacy level of 76.85 percent.A total of 16 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
