Gorakhpur Urban Election Result 2022 LIVE: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wins by a margin of over 1 lakh votes
Mar 9, 2022 3:55 PM

Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister and BJP leader Yogi Adityanath has won the Gorakhpur Urban constituency of the state by a massive margin of over 1 lakh votes. Adityanath defeated SP's Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla by 103,390 votes, securing a total of 1,65,499 votes. Shukla managed to secure 62,109 votes.

Congress' Chetna Pandey secured 2,880 votes while BSP's Khwaja Shamsuddin 8,023 votes.

Gorakhpur Urban is an Assembly constituency in the Gorakhpur district, in the North East region of the state of UP.

The Gorakhpur Urban Legislative Assembly constituency went to polls on March 3, 2022.

The Assembly seat is reserved for the General category and it falls in the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency.

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, Gorakhpur Urban was won by Dr Radha Mohan Das Agrawal of the BJP. He defeated INC's Rana Rahul Singh.

Before that, in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha elections too, the seat was held by BJP's Dr Radha Mohan Das Agarwal.

In the 2017 Assembly polls, Dr Radha Mohan Das Agrawal garnered 1,22,221 votes, securing 55.85 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 60,730 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 27.75 percent.

The Yogi factor seems to have worked well for BJP once again with the party winning 255 seats in the UP Assembly polls as of 8.35 pm. Samajwadi Party (SP) has won 110 seats while Congress two. A party needs the halfway mark of 202 seats to win the elections out of the 403 seats in the state.

Adityanath, who is set to take over as the CM of UP for the second term, has once again proven that he is BJP's mass leader after Prime Minister Modi.
