The counting of votes began on Sunday to elect a new 140-member Kerala Legislative Assembly. Early trends indicate that the Communist Party of India's (Marxist) KK Ramachandran is leading.

Puthukkad is an Assembly constituency in the Thrissur district, in the Cochin region of Kerala. The Puthukkad constituency went to the polls on April 6, 2021.

In the 2016 Assembly elections, Puthukkad was won by Prof.C.Raveendranath of CPM. Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Prof: C. Raveendranath of CPM.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Prof.C.Raveendranath garnered 79464 votes, securing over 50.07 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 38478 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 24.24 percent. The constituency polled 158733 votes in the 2016 Kerala assembly polls with a voter turnout of 81.29 percent. The Puthukkad constituency has a literacy level of 95.32 percent. A total of 9 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
