Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Bihar today, September 16, to address a public meeting in Jhanjharpur of the Madhubani district of the state, as part of the Lok Sabha Pravas Programme of the Bharatiya Janata Party. This visit is a part of BJP’s pre-election campaign ahead of the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Union Minister of State Home, Nityanand Rai, spoke to ANI about the purpose of Home Minister Shah's visit. “Home Minister Amit Shah is coming to Bihar with the message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the Lok Sabha Pravas Program, the Home Minister is going to address a huge public meeting in Jhanjharpur,” Rai said.
The meeting is expected to be extraordinary, as the people of the Madhubani district have shown great enthusiasm to attend the rally, he said. Each time Shah visits Bihar he addresses the state's development issues, Rai added.
In addition to addressing the public gathering, Shah will also chair a meeting of the Lok Sabha Core Committee. This meeting is expected to draw top leaders of the Bihar BJP, including State BJP President Samrat Choudhary and MoS Home Nityanand Rai, as well as district leaders of the party.
Notably, Shah will inaugurate the Integrated Check Post (ICP) on the Indo-Nepal Border at Jogbani during the visit. He will also remotely inaugurate the SSB battalion headquarters, situated 8 km away from Jogbani.
Amit Shah's frequent visits to Bihar demonstrate the political significance of the state, especially after BJP broke its alliance with the ruling JD(U) in August 2022. Last year, he visited Punia, the capital of the Seemanchal region, and later, in October, he paid a visit to Sitab Diara, the birthplace of the socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan.
In February this year, Amit Shah visited Valmiki Nagar and Patna, where he addressed the Kisan Samagam organised in honour of the birth anniversary of peasant leader Sahajanand Saraswati. His visit aimed to garner support from the Bhumihar community, from which he hails.
However, his visit in April was marked by the cancellation of a program in Rohtas due to violence in the area. Nevertheless, Shah returned to Bihar on June 29 and addressed a massive rally at Lakhisarai in Munger Lok Sabha constituency, the home turf of JD(U) President and Lok Sabha MP Lalan Singh.
