In the 2016 Assembly elections, Veppanahalli was won by Murugan P of DMK.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by T Senguttuvan of DMK.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Murugan P garnered 88952 votes, securing over 46.01 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 5228 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 2.7 percent.

The constituency polled 193338 votes in the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly polls with a voter turnout of 84.74 percent.

The Veppanahalli constituency has a literacy level of 72.41 percent.

A total of 19 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
