Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, on September 11 carried out a ministerial reshuffling, resulting in the removal of Babul Supriyo from his position in the tourism department. According to the PTI, Banerjee informed reporters at the state secretariat that the governor had granted approval for the cabinet reshuffle the previous night (September 10), and the announcement was made on September 11. This reshuffling occurred just before Banerjee embarked on a trip to Spain and Dubai. Here’s a look at the changes made in the reshuffle.
Babul Supriyo | Babul Supriyo, the singer-turned-politician has been shifted from the State’s Tourism department. He has been handed charge of renewable energy, a senior official said. Supriyo will continue to hold the information technology portfolio besides his new responsibility of renewable energy.
Indranil Sen | Another singer-turned-politician, Indranil Sen was the minister of state for the technical education, training, and skill development department. He has been given the independent charge of the tourism department. Incidentally, Sen was earlier the minister of state (independent charge) of the tourism department before Supriyo was made the minister-in-charge of the department. Sen will also continue looking after the Information and Cultural Affairs Department.
Jyoti Priya Mallick | Forest Minister Jyoti Priya Mallick was given additional charge of the Department of Public Enterprises and Industrial Reconstruction.
Arup Roy | Arup Roy will be looking after the Department of Food Processing Industries and Horticulture. Roy was relieved of his duties from the cooperation department.
Pradip Mazumdar | Banerjee entrusted the cooperation department with Pradip Mazumdar, who will continue to be the minister-in-charge of the panchayat department.
Md. Ghulam Rabbani | Md. Ghulam Rabbani was removed as the minister of the food processing department and will be now looking after the environment department.
