A group of online sellers, in a petition to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), have alleged that the e-commerce giant Amazon has been giving preference to large retail sellers on its platform, hurting the small retailers, The Economic Times reported.
According to the petition, Amazon arranges discounts for customers by a process which involves Amazon Wholesale India buying goods such as mobile phones, electronics, etc, in bulk and selling it to larger retailers on its platform at a discount and booking the resulting loss in its book, the report said.
The All India Online Vendors Association (AIOVA) said that Amazon is giving preference to sellers such as Cloudtail and Appario Retail, the report said, adding that e-commerce platforms in India are not allowed to influence pricing of products sold on their platforms.
Several small and medium enterprises have complained about the same in the past to CCI and other government authorities seeking intervention or setting up a regulatory body for the sector, ET reported.
