April 1 (Reuters) - Amazon's ( AMZN ) cloud computing operation in Bahrain was damaged
after an Iranian strike, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, citing a person familiar
with the matter.
Bahrain's Interior Ministry said earlier in the day that civil defence teams were
extinguishing a fire at a company facility following what authorities described as an Iranian
attack.
* The ministry did not immediately provide details on the company involved, casualties or
the extent of damage.
* The report of the strike came a day after Iran's Revolutionary Guards threatened to target
U.S. companies in the Middle East, including Microsoft ( MSFT ), Google and Apple ( AAPL )
, in retaliation for attacks on Iran.
* Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment on the FT report.
* Last week, the e-commerce giant said its Amazon Web Services region in Bahrain had been
"disrupted" amid the current conflict in the Middle East, marking the second time in a month
that its operations have been affected by the war.
* AWS is Amazon's ( AMZN ) cloud computing unit and critical for the operation of many well-known
websites and government operations, and the company's main profit driver.
