Global economies looking to replicate India’s digital infra: Bharti Enterprises’ Sunil Bharti Mittal

Countries across the world are impressed with India's digital infrastructure and are looking to replicate it as it can boost world economies, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman, Bharti Enterprises said on October 27.

Speaking at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023 event in Delhi, Mittal said, "Whether it is the World Bank, United Nations, WTO, Africa Union, European Union, G20, OECD countries, BRICS, they say that the digital infrastructure that India has built can accelerate world economies especially those countries that lack infrastructure."

Mittal hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's clarion call to lift the industry’s game and support the Digital India vision. As India builds hard infrastructure at a feverish pace, the industry realises that if tools are given in the hands of citizens to lift their lives, India could progress by leaps and bounds, he said, adding that PM’s JAM Trinity- (Jan Dhan, Aadhar, and Mobile) is being discussed worldwide.

Bharti Enterprises chairman believes that India has upped its game in manufacturing with big companies like Apple, Dixon, Samsung, Tata Group as well as startups involved in the sector. With this, India is becoming a leader in digital infrastructure manufacturing.

Bharti Airtel has so far rolled out its 5G services in 5,000 towns and 20,000 villages across India. By March 2024, it aims to cover the entire country with its 5G network.

Reflecting on PM Modi’s recent direction to the industry to cover remaining villages, Mittal said, "we are putting in a lot of effort along with DoT through the USOF fund to go to the North East, to go to border areas, to go to those difficult villages. But a new technology is now available for our country."

Mittal feels that Satellite Communication shall serve every inch of the country and the globe. Through this technology, people anywhere across the country shall be able to connect with each other next month onwards from a satellite ground station setup in Mesana Gujarat.

"Airtel has been at the forefront of the telecom revolution. We will keep on dutifully doing our job. We will keep on shoulder to shoulder with our other operator colleagues, build India's digital highway to support India's digital vision as well as Make in India," Mittal concluded.
