Feb 5 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened

higher on Wednesday, lifted by materials shares, as gold prices

rose due to safe-haven demand in light of the escalating

U.S.-China trade war.

At 9:31 a.m. ET (1431 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's

S&P/TSX composite index was up 0.29% at 25353.9.
