Stock Fall Pre-Bell as Traders Assess Inflation Data; Asia Mixed, Europe Down

07:28 AM EDT, 06/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were tracking in the red before the opening bell Friday as investors digest the latest key inflation data that was released this week.

The S&P 500 futures declined 0.5%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.8% and the Nasdaq was off 0.2% in premarket activity. Asian exchanges were mixed, while European bourses were pointing lower midday on the continent.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics on Thursday reported that producer prices unexpectedly returned to contraction territory in May. Government data on Wednesday showed consumer-price inflation unexpectedly stalled last month and declined more than forecast at the annual level.

On Friday's economic calendar, the import and export prices report May posts at 8:30 am ET, followed by the preliminary University of Michigan consumer sentiment report for June. The weekly Baker Hughes domestic oil-and-gas rig count is out at 1 pm.

Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago President Austan Goolsbee is scheduled to speak at 2 pm, while Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook speaks at 7 pm.

Adobe (ADBE) shares jumped 14% pre-bell after the computer software maker lifted its fiscal 2024 earnings outlook on the back of a stronger-than-expected second quarter. RH (RH) dropped 12% as the company swung to a wider-than-anticipated first-quarter loss. Tesla (TSLA) gained 1.1% after shareholders voted in favor of Chief Executive Elon Musk's huge pay deal.

Before the open, bitcoin traded up 0.2% at $66,836, West Texas Intermediate crude oil was slightly in the green at $78.64 a barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries decreased 3.3 basis points to 4.21% and gold increased 1.2% to $2,345 an ounce.
